Ravenhill Road crash: 32-year-old arrested as one victim is named

Detectives investigating a fatal crash on the Ravenhill Road in Belfast on Saturday night have arrested a 32-year-old man.

Police say he is being questioned on suspicion of a number of driving offences.

Two men died in the collision which happened just after 9pm and involved two cars.

One of the victims has been named as 47-year-old Jon O’Hara from Belfast, but originally Portstewart.

It is understood that details of the second man who died have not been released.

PSNI statement in full:

Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the Ravenhill Road on Saturday night (22 January) are continuing to appeal for information about the collision where two men sadly lost their lives.

Chief Inspector Wendy Pollock said:

“One of the men who died has been named as Jon O’Hara aged 47 and from Belfast. The second man has not been named.

“The driver and a second passenger in the Skoda Octavia both remain in hospital.

“We have arrested a 32 year old man on suspicion of a number driving offences and he is currently in police custody.

Police enquires are continuing and anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam or mobile phone footage or any other information, should contact 101 quoting reference number 1736 22/01/22.
