Runner found dead after Mourne Mountain rescue operation

A runner has been found dead after going missing on the Mourne Mountains.

A rescue operation was sparked just after mid-day on Thursday, involving 17 mountain rescue volunteers, police, and air support.

The body was found at around 5.30pm in the Newtown Road area of Rostrevor.

Police say they aren't treating the death as suspicious.

 

A PSNI spokesperson said:

"Police attended the scene of the sudden death of a man in the Newtown Road area of Rostrevor on Thursday, 27th December. "

"A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course, however, the death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
