Security alert in Larne declared hoax

A security alert in Larne has ended after a suspicious object was declared a hoax by police.

Homes in the Kilwaughter area of the A8 Belfast Road were evacuated just before half 10 last night as a result.

The object has since been taken away for further forensic examination.

Residents have now returned to their homes.

 Inspector Bryan said: “Shortly after 10:20pm last night  it was reported there was a suspicious object in the area. Officers attended and the object, which was declared a hoax, has  been taken away for further forensic examination.

“Residents have returned to their homes and we thank them for their patience and understanding while police worked to make the area safe.

“Police are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, should contact them on 101 quoting reference number 2412 03/04/21.
