A Newry-based online safety expert says social media platforms "must do more to protect users".

Wayne Denner was speaking after legal guidelines targeting internet bullies came into effect yesterday.
It will mean bullies who target victims using social media, known as 'internet trolls', could face prosecution in England and Wales .
The new guidelines are to make it easier for police to identify online crimes.
Mr Denner praised the move, but says there's still more that can be done:

"Legislation is catching up and I think people are going to find themselves in difficult situations on the wrong side of the law if they continue to use social media in such a way that it's harassing and abusing others.

He added, "Social media platforms have to do more in order to protect users... They still have more work to do and I think that major platforms are going to work more closely with law enforcement."
