A teenage boy named as Reece Meenan has died following a road traffic collision at Newbridge Road on Saturday 26th November.
Reece was struck by a white coloured car at around 6.30pm. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The white car failed to stop at the scene of the collision and was located in the Magherafelt area several hours later following police enquiries.
A 23 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and a number of other offences. He has since been released on Police bail.
UUP Councillor for the are Darryl Wilson extended his sympathies to the family. "The Thoughts and prayers of the entire community go out the family" said Mr Wilson "Particularly at this time of year as we approach Christmas, we send them our deepest sympathies"
While MLA for the area Maurice Bradley said the "the community was in shock at the death of such a promising young boy"
