Three drink drivers were taken off the roads in Newry at the weekend and will now have to face the courts for their actions.

In a social media post, the PSNI says it was due to the public's "vigilance and prompt phone calls", it's officers were alerted to the drink drivers.

A spokesperson for the police in Newry said:

"Why people insist on getting behind the wheel after drinking alcohol beggars belief. But it happens, despite the obvious danger it poses, and when it does we want to catch and get them off the roads.

"So, thank you to the callers who got in touch and enabled our officers to respond quickly to catch the culprits.

"Keep up the good work and never hesitate to call police on 999 if you witness a suspected drunk driver - your call will help to keep the roads safer and could well prevent a tragedy.

"The message remains the same - never EVER drink and drive. Could you live with your conscience for the rest of your life if you killed or seriously maimed someone?"
