Hotel staff threatened in County Fermanagh shooting

The incident happened around half nine this morning.

Police believe they've found a burnt out car used in a shooting in Co.Fermanagh this morning. 

Four armed men dressed in dark coloured overalls - with white stripes and balaclavas - were involved in the incident at around half past nine.

Staff at a hotel in the Main Street area of Belleek were threatened before a single shot was fired at a contractors van.

No one was in the vehicle at the time but all involved are said to be shaken. 

A black ford escort was found burnt out in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison - where the men then made off in a second unknown vehicle - possibly headed towards the Republic of Ireland.

Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said: “It is now believed that four armed and masked men arrived at a hotel on Main Street shortly before 9.30am and threatened staff.

"They fired one shot into the van of a contractor working there before making off.

"There was no one in the van at the time and no one sustained any injuries during the incident.

The senior PSNI offical also called for any witnesses to help in the investigation. 

He said : "“I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the Main Street area of Belleek this morning or anyone who may have witnessed the men abandoning the Ford Escort car in the Derrynacross Road area of Garrison to contact detectives at Enniskillen on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting reference number 272 02/08/16.
