Three year old boy dies after being hit by car in Newtownards

A 3 year old boy has died in hospital after being hit by a car in County Down.

Kai Corkum was struck on the Movilla Road in Newtownards at around 5.20pm on Thursday.

The child was from the local area and was a pupil of Chuckles Pre-School.

A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving has been released on bail pending further police enquiries. 

Inspector O’Connor said:

 

“Kai was taken to hospital following the collision but sadly died from his injuries yesterday afternoon (Friday 14 December)"

 

“The collision involved a silver-coloured Volkswagen Golf and occurred around 5.20pm.  I would ask anyone who was in the Movilla road area of the town around that time on Thursday afternoon and witnessed the collision to get in touch with police as soon as possible, as you may have information vital to our investigation."

 

“If you were driving in the area you may also have dashcam footage - and if you do, again I would urge you to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1000 of 13/12/18.”
