Police are appealing for information

Two PSNI officers were injured when their car was rammed twice in Co Down.

The Tactical Support Group officers were carrying out a mobile patrol on the Killysorrell Road in the Dromore area at around 12.15pm on Wednesday when they came across a Ford Galaxy with defective number plates, the force said in a statement.

The officers, who were in an unmarked Skoda, followed the beige/gold-coloured car to Villa Wood Road where it stopped suddenly and reversed into the police vehicle.

The Ford carried on to the Gowdystown Road where it stopped again and reversed at speed into the police car before making off southbound on the A1 carriageway.

The two officers needed medical treatment after the incident and the damage caused to their car will mean it will have to be taken off the road for repairs.

Inspector Rice said: “Thankfully, the injuries our officers sustained were not too serious, however, it is unacceptable that people working to keep their community safe should be targeted in this way.

“A police vehicle was also damaged which has an impact on our ability to carry out our duties on behalf of the local community.”

Investigations are ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
