A major land and sea search for a Derry man missing in county Donegal continues this afternoon.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Griffiths from the Culmore area of the city had been camping on the Isle of Doagh with his family on Monday night.

However, when they awoke yesterday morning the 59 year-old was nowhere to be found, prompting a large coastal search around the Isle of Doagh and Trawbreaga Bay shortly after 6pm last night.

Lifeboats from Lough Swilly, Greencastle coastguard and the Sligo 118 helicopter resumed the search earlier this morning, alongside locals and officers from An Garda Síochána.

Joe Joyce, a volunteer with Lough Swilly RNLI, said search conditions in the area can be difficult:

Buncrana Gardai has described Mr Griffiths’ as being of medium build and around 5 foot 9 tall, with sandy hair, blue eyes and glasses.

He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt with a blue and red design and beige-coloured combat shorts.

Inspector David Murphy made this appeal:
