Van driver threatened by men with metal bar during hijacking in Belfast

Police are appealing for information following the hijacking of a van in the Agnes Street area of Belfast last night.

It was reported that shortly before 9.15pm a male van driver, who was parked on Agnes Street, was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a metal bar. 

The suspects threatened the victim and pulled him from the van, before subsequently driving off.

 Detective Inspector Tom Phillips said that police responded swiftly and a short pursuit ensued.

"The van overturned on the Springfield Road and a number of vehicles were damaged during the course of the incident," he said.


“Two men were arrested and remain in custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.

"Our enquiries continue and I am appealing to anyone with information or possible dashcam/phone footage to contact 101 quoting reference 1911 16/02/21."
