LISTEN: Woman dies in fatal road traffic collision in Coalisland

A woman has died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Ballynakilly Road in Coalisland yesterday evening.

The collision was reported shortly before 9:10pm.

Police attended the scene along with other emergency services.

The female driver of a Renault Modus was treated at the scene but sadly passed away. The driver of a Volkswagen Golf was uninjured.e

The Co, Tyrone road was closed overnight between Tamnamore roundabout and its junction with Moor Road.

Inspector Lucas is appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured dash cam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1981 of 14/07/20.

I'm really sorry to hear about the tragic incident on the Ballynakilly Road last night, the loss of life again on our roads.

Local councillor Robert Thomas Colvin said this was a "tragic loss of life:"

"My sympathies go out to the family of the lady who has lost her life."

The councillor also expressed his concerns about the safety of the road:

"I just feel this is a section of road that really needs to be looked at it.

"It's really become the unofficial bypass now to try and avoid Cookstown and Dungannon.

"That junction where the traffic does travel by very fast needs to be looked at and is something I will take up with the road service myself."
