Woman punched in the face as gang of men try to enter a flat in Dundonald

A woman has been punched in the face as a group of four men armed with a hammer and a suspected metal pipe tried to get into a flat in Dundonald.

She and a man managed to stop the gang from getting into the property when it happened at around 3.45am this morning.

The man was left with a cuts to his head and arms.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Detectives are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary at a property in the Drumadoon Drive area of Dundonald during the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 29 May. 

"It was reported that shortly after 3.45am, four men attempted to forced entry to a flat in the area. One of the males was armed with a hammer and a second male was armed with what is believed to have been a metal pipe. 

"The male and female occupants of the flat prevented the attackers from gaining entry. The female, aged in her 50s, was punched to the face during the incident and the male, aged in his 30s, sustained a cut to his head and cuts to his arms as a result of the incident.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information which could assist with our investigation to contact them at Lisburn on 101 quoting reference number 170 29/05/18. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
