Works near the monument have been temporarily stopped by the council.

By Iveren McCallion

The stoppage of works to build a 41-metre turbine near a neolithic scheduled monument is being welcomed by campaigners.

Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon borough council placed a stop notice on the development near Knock Iveagh Cairn following legal advice.

It will halt works at the 6,000 year-old site for 28 days.

Planning permission was approved before planning powers were given to councils.

Friends of Knock Iveagh campaigner Anne Harper says the threat's still there and the campaign continue:

The Department for Communities said planning approval was given for the wind turbine "without due consideration of the potential effects on the scheduled monument".
