The lord Mayor of Belfast has laid a wreath at a ceremony to mark the 101st anniversary of the battle of the somme.
Men from both the 36th Ulster division and the 16th Irish division lost their lives in the World War two battle.
The Secretary of State and members of the Irish Government were also in attendance at Belfast City Hall.
