Newry City have been promoted to the Danske Bank Premiership.

They had a 3-1 victory at Carrick Rangers in the promotion-relegation play-off second leg, winning 6-3 on aggregate.

Their scorers on Wednesday night were Stephen Hughes, with a penalty, Mark McCabe and Mark Hughes.

The club was re-formed in 2013 after the demise of the original Newry City.

Meanwhile, Cliftonville will host Glentoran in Saturday's Europa League play-off final, worth more than £200,000 to the winners.

The Reds eased to a 4-0 success over 10-man Ballymena United in their semi at Solitude. Sky Blues striker Kevin Braniff was dismissed in the first half.

The Glens had a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory away to Linfield with Curtis Allen grabbing the winner just hours after he had a red card rescinded, clearing him to play in the derby showdown.

The Blues have rejected reports manager David Healy has left the club.

He told Q Radio after the match he's already planning for next season, with a number of players heading for the exit door - and they'll get the bad news on Thursday night.
