A British man has died after falling about 60m (196ft) while descending from one of northern Spain's highest mountains.
The 28-year-old mountaineer fell down a vertical gully on the east side of Torrecerredo on Thursday, according to the Spanish Civil Guard in Asturias.
It sent a mountain rescue team to the site after a report someone had fallen around 2.20pm.
Two specialists were lowered from a helicopter and were able to retrieve the man's remains and scattered belongings.
The Civil Guard said the fall happened about 20m (65ft) from the summit.
The 2,648m (8,687ft) peak is the highest in the Cantabrian Mountains and the famous Picos de Europa national park.
The man's identity has not yet been released but authorities said his body had been taken to La Morgal, a sports and aviation facility near the city of Gijon.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said they were in contact with local authorities over the incident.
