Sinn Fein to announce terms of reference for an investigation into RHI

The Finance Minister Mairtin O'Muilleoir has been critical of claims from the DUP they have a plan to reduce the overspend to "zero"

Sinn Fein will later this morning outline their proposals for terms of reference in an investigation into the RHI.

The party had rejected the head of the civil service's terms.

Finance Minister Mairtin O'Muilleoir has dismissed a plan to deal with the renewable heating scandal as "nothing but a sticking plaster".

The Sinn Fein minister rubbished claims by DUP Economy Minister Simon Hamilton that he and First Minister Arlene Foster had come up with a solution to reduce the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Scheme overspend from approximately £490 million to "effectively zero".

Mr O Muilleoir also warned that the political institutions will collapse unless the First Minister steps aside to facilitate an independent investigation into the scandal.

Over the course of the week, the First Minister has faced a number of calls for her to step aside over the botched energy scheme.

The scheme was set up by Arlene Foster in 2012 when she was Enterprise Minister.
