Conor McGregor has finally revealed when he will return to the UFC to fight Michael Chandler.
The UFC champion hasn’t brawled inside the Octagon since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier, 34, in 2021, but his appearance alongside Chandler on the Ultimate Fighter series has paved the way for a comeback to the ring.
The series saw McGregor train a team of rookies looking for a chance to fight in the UFC while Chandler coached a team of veterans who had already fought in the organisation and were looking for a second chance.
McGregor, 35, posted on X announcing the event which will see the two fight on 16 December.
He also included a countdown to the fight in the picture.
His post stated: “UFC 296L Chandler vs McGregor. 9:00pm – Saturday, December 16th.”
Speculation over when the fight will happen has been rife for months, with the fight first being mooted all the way back in February.
It’s understood the delay in making it happen was due to McGregor's absence from the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s testing pool.
UFC and USADA policy requires fighters re-entering the pool to be available for drug testing for a minimum of six months before they’re eligible to compete.
McGregor’s next fight is thought to be headed for Las Vegas.
Chandler, 37, is yet to confirm the bout.
