Miriam Margolyes reveals why she turns down big money offers for Strictly and I'm A Celeb

Miriam Margolyes has refused to take part in 'Strictly Come Dancing' and 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' over the years even though the offers have been lucrative.

Miriam Margolyes has refused to take part in 'Strictly Come Dancing.'

The 82-year-old actress revealed in her new memoir 'Oh, Miriam!' that she had been offered a lucrative place on the BBC Latin and ballroom show in the past but joked that the bosses must have been "f****** nuts" to think of her in the first place.

Speaking on the 'Dish' podcast, she told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett: "I only wrote it 'cause they offered me a lot of money. That's true, that's absolutely true! Well, when you’re old and you know that your earning potential is diminishing. You’ve got to get the money while you can.

"I won’t do that, what do you call it? The dancing thing. Yeah, they must have been f****** nuts!"

The 'Harry Potter' star - who outside of her acting career has taken part in 'The Real Marigold Hotel' for the BBC as well as a string of other travel documentaries - went on to reveal that she has even been asked to compete on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in the past but did not appear to give the idea any thought as she quipped she is too "classy" to spend weeks living in the Australian outback with other famous faces.

She said: "And they asked me to go in the jungle. I've got class, love. I’m not doing that."

Her comments come just as it has been announced that politician Nigel Farage, Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn Spears, 'Hollyoaks' actor Nick Pritchard, JLS singer Marvin Humes, 'This Morning' host Josie Gibson, and 'Made in Chelsea' star Sam Thompson will all be heading Down Under to compete in the jungle.

They will be joined by former 'EastEnders' actress Danielle Harold, 'First Dates' star Fred Sireiex and YouTuber Nella Rose as they all endure tasks and compete in Bushtucker Trials in a bid to become the next King of Queen of the Jungle.
