Two people have died after a crash involving a small plane at Newtonards Airport last night. The aircraft came down only 100 yards from the airport's club house
They've been named as Philip Murdock, who was the managing director of security firm Envision Intelligent Solutions in Craigavon and 44 year old mother of two Caroline Mawhinney who lived just outside Newtonards.
They were both members of Ulster Flying Club
Emergency services rushed to the scene in response to a 999 call around 8pm.
In a statement, the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said it received a 999 call at 8.21pm following reports of an incident on the Portaferry Road, Newtownards.
“NIAS despatched two emergency crews, a doctor and an ambulance officer to the incident,” it said.
“No patients were taken from the scene.”
