It’s that time of year when the colder weather descends on Northern Ireland, the heating is on for longer, and heating bills rise. For households that are kept warm and cosy by trusted oil boilers, there are many steps that can be taken to ensure that your home is championing energy efficiency and your heating system is working at its optimum level, ultimately helping you to save money in the long run. With over 40 years of providing homes in Northern Ireland with reliable and efficient home heating solutions, leading heating technology manufacturer Grant outlines some advice to get you through this winter season.

1. Use condensing oil technology

Unlike traditional older oil boilers, modern condensing oil boilers on the market today feature condensing oil technology that is much more efficient. Grant’s range
of Vortex condensing oil boilers feature an award-winning stainless-steel heat exchanger that captures the energy normally lost during the combustion process in traditional oil boilers. The popular Grant Vortex condensing oil boilers were recently acknowledged by leading consumer body Which?, and received a Which? Best Buy 2018 for its low NOx and Blueflame boilers within the Vortex Pro Utility, Vortex Pro Combi and VortexBlue External/Outdoor ranges.

2. Upgrade your oil boiler

If you find yourself complaining about increasing heating bills each year, it may not be a reflection on the cost of fuel, but in fact an indication that your existing heating system is in need of an upgrade. Generally, homeowners with an old oil boiler that is over ten years old, may find that it is not delivering the same great efficiencies as when first installed. Depending on the age and make of the existing heating system, those considering a change could save up to 25% on their annual heating bills when upgrading to a Grant Vortex condensing oil boiler.

3. Book in an annual boiler service

Ensure that your heating system is running in top form and providing you with the best efficiency outputs this winter by simply booking in your annual boiler service.

4. Insulate if necessary

Effective home insulation is the perfect pairing for any efficient heating system as it can help prevent unnecessary heat loss. Insulating your walls and loft not only helps your home heat up faster but can also help it stay warmer for longer.

5. Top up your oil supply

Keep a check on your oil supply and place an order with your local supplier before winter temperatures fully set in. You could even save money by shopping around and placing your order early before demand increases.
