A number of young people from east Africa are being looked after by health services in Northern Ireland amid claims from some of them that they entered the city in a shipping container containing up to 50 people, sources said.
It is understood that groups of youths from Eritrea have been discovered in different locations across the city since August 2.
It is understood that six were discovered in the second week of October and three presented themselves to the authorities the following week.
During interview, some of the latter three made the claim about arriving in the shipping container, the sources said.
Police sources indicated they were taking the container claims seriously but had not yet been able to establish any "hard evidence".
