Translink says it hopes work on a controversial new transport hub for the North West will start as soon as possible.

Derry City and Strabane District Council gave the £27 million pound plans for Derry Londonderry's Waterside the go-ahead last night.

It came despite almost 50 letters of opposition and a petition signed by thousands of people.

Translink will demolish the current station next to the listed building and refurbish and develop what it's described as a multi-modal regional transport centre in its place.

Listen below to John Glass who is from the firm.

However, Ulster Architectural Heritage campaigner John Anderson says they are not giving up but will take the fight to the Department of Infrastructure.
