Loyalist 'supergrass' gets sentence date for litany of terror offences

Loyalist killer turned supergrass Gary Haggarty was today (Wednesday) told he will be sentenced for a litany of crimes next month.

Haggarty, whose address was given c/o PSNI at Knocknagoney, heard he will be sentenced for over 200 offences - including five counts of murder - on Friday December 1st.

Mr Justice Colton told Belfast Crown Court he had received all the relevant information and documents related to the case, and that he was ready to set a date for sentencing.

The Judge also confirmed that he will be sentencing 45-year old Haggarty "on the basis he had been an assisting offender and had done so in an agreement he entered in to with the Prosecution."

After the date for sentencing was agreed by both the Crown and defence, Mr Justice Colton remanded the defendant back into custody.

On December 1, Haggarty will be back in court to be sentenced on a wide range of offences - from murders and assaults to terrorist-related offences - linked to UVF activity in and around south-east Antrim and north Belfast in the 1990s.
