Shanghai Masters: Ronnie O'Sullivan's campaign ends with second-round loss to Kyron Wilson

Ronnie O’Sullivan was knocked out of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-4 defeat to Kyren Wilson in their second-round meeting.

An entertaining encounter saw Wilson take a 3-1 lead - which included breaks of 113 and 91 - before O'Sullivan responded.

The 50-year-old reeled off three successive century breaks to move ahead in the contest, but Wilson then clinched the following three frames to book his spot in the quarter-finals.

The defending champion will now face Mark Williams after the Welshman edged past Chris Wakelin 6-5 in a dramatic contest earlier on Tuesday.

Wakelin raced into a three-frame lead, but Williams fought back from 4-2 down by reeling off three consecutive frames to move within one of victory.

Wakelin forced a deciding frame by taking the 10th, but Williams held his nerve in the decider, compiling a superb break of 65 to book his place in the next round.

Elsewhere, Neil Robertson also came through a deciding-frame thriller, recovering from behind to defeat Xiao Guodong 6-5 despite the Chinese player producing a maximum 147 break during the match.

Xiao made a solid start and hit a 147 in the third frame of the match, his fourth career maximum.

However after trailing 5-2, Robertson bounced back to win the final four frames and sneak into the quarter-finals.

Judd Trump also reached the last eight with a 6-4 triumph over Barry Hawkins.

The world No 1 made two centuries - including a 138 break in the ninth frame - and will face either John Higgins or Jack Lisowski for a place in the semi-finals.
